What are Wireless LAN (WLAN) Standards?

May 14th 2019 at 11:02 AM

Wireless LAN Standards

Wireless LANs have internationally accepted standards. Companies that produce wireless LAN devices produce devices that meet the standards for the establishment of more healthy and efficient wireless LAN networks. Wireless LAN standards data are standards that determine how quickly and how to go.

These standards are determined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). A few of the standards are 802.11, 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. The Eureopean Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) also defines the HIPERLAN1 VR HIPERLAN2 standards.

IEEE 802.11x Standards

The 802.11x family is the standard defined by IEEE for wireless LAN applications. In the 802.11xx standard, the data rate is set to 1-2 Mbps. However, the data rates at the later developed 802.11b and 802.11a standards have been increased. The data rate of the 802.11b standard is 11 Mbps and the 802.11a standard is 54 Mbps. In particular, the transmission performance should be taken into account when comparing wireless network devices. Because the data rates mentioned above are not the net data transfer rate, so the amount of data transferred is actually lower. To make a comparison; The data transfer rate in the 802.11a standard is 54 Mbps, but the amount of net data is about 32 Mbps. If we look at the 802.11b standard, the data transfer rate is 11 Mbps, but the amount of transmitted net data is about 5 Mbps. If we look at the 802.11 standard, the data transfer rate is seen as 2 Mbps, but the amount of transmitted net data is about 1.2 Mbps. Data transfer is of utmost importance in the wireless LAN devices to be used, with particular attention being paid to the amount of net data transmitted in device selection.
