How to Spend a Day at The Track – Golden Gate Fields

Mar 21st 2019 at 12:22 AM

For over 75 years, the San Francisco Bay Area has enjoyed some of the most amazing entertainment, music and racing action because of the Golden Gate Fields. This horse racing track has hosted several celebrities over the years, provided a good stage for shooting Hollywood movies and there is even a punk rock band named after it. It is quite clear it is one of the most entertaining race tracks in the country.

If you are also making your way to San Francisco for a good time, be sure to check out the Golden Gate Fields. The closing of the Bay Meadow race track around 11 years ago made Golden Gate Fields the only major thoroughbred horse racing track in the state of Northern Carolina. Set on around 140 acres of land in the cities of Berkeley and Albany, this race track has a very rich history. The track opened right before World War II and on the onset of the Second World War saw the United States Navy take over the facility to use as the Albany Naval Landing Force Equipment Depot.

For those looking to enjoy some good grub while getting a piece of the racing action, the Golden Gate Fields Turf Club has a lot of food in its menu and we mean a lot. From appetizers like the Nachos Libres and Angus Beef Sliders to the All Day Breakfast serving you New York Steak and Eggs, you will surely enjoy a hearty meal while you are at the venue watching the races.

Sundays are a $1 day at the Golden Gate Fields. Everything from the beer at the bar, hotdogs, parking and admission cost just $1. So when you are heading on over to spend a day at the race track, you can pay $4 and be able to park your car, get admission, catch a program and eat a hotdog while you are at it. Imagine how cheap is that?

You can even bet on the horse races happening at the Golden Gate (of course) but the thing is that you will not be betting against the house. You will bet against other people and that means you have to expect the odds to fluctuate based on the betting. The scoreboard will constantly update every 30 seconds between each race.

Don’t worry, if you want to enjoy the thrill of betting but you do not want to put too much money into it, the minimum amount you can bet is just $2. Do not let that get you carried away if you start to have a good run of luck.

Golden Gate Fields also allows you to stand right next to the final stretch. You will see the horses warm up and finish the races there from just 25 yards away. Talk about getting close to the action. If you are ever looking to spend a day at the races on a Sunday, there is no better place for you to enjoy an affordable yet incredibly fun day out than at the Golden Gate Fields.
