Moving From a Brick and Mortar Store to Online Marketing

       COMPUTERS ARE USED IN BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!

On April 30, 2010, I closed my "brick-and-mortar" after 21 years.  There were many successful years and many unsuccessful ones.  However, the key to our success was local patronization, which involved personal contact, mutual respect, unique and quality merchandise.  Prior, to closing, we dabbled in online marleting, but were too busy with the traditional business to devote a lot of time to developing it.

After closure, I settled in  with online marketing--devoting numerous hours to research, work and passion.  After three months, I am ready to compare the two:

Brick and Mortar:

1.  $200,000 or more start-up cost - local patronage

2.  Full-time work

3.  95% failure rate in first 5 years

4.  Profit after about 5 years

5.  Long hours

Online Marketing:

1. World-wide or international
2. $500 to $1000 start-up cost
3. No profits
4. 95% never earn money (research)
5. If money is made, far more profitable

Three months are a very short time to be able to make a comparison with 21 years of traditional business.  However, what I do see at the present time, is the competition online is incredulous compared to offline.  The "hype" is off the top, and sales are almost non-existent.  The great thing about being online is, I have a passion for what I am doing.  I love people, and genuinely would like to see them succeed.    

I am meeting some wonderful people, learning more than I can imagine, and have great hopes and aspirations!
