Tricks and tips when using gmail
Hi everyone,
I use gmail as my primary email account.
Here are some tricks I use to get more efficient. I need these tricks cause I receive hundreds and hundreds of emails every day, from TEs, newsletters, new offers ( lots of those ), free reports/eBooks,videos/software/membership sites, etc...
I still have to learn to manage my time and resources more carefully. This is definitely a work in progress.
Trick no 1 : When I want to know if I had any new follower here at IMFP, it does happen :), I open a new tab for gmail, and I use the following bookmark :
https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#search/You+have+a+new+follower!
It gives me other emails besides IMFP new followers, but at least, it helps those IMFP emails stand out from the crowd.
I use the same technique for new Twitter followers :
https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#search/is+now+following+you+on+Twitter!
and for direct messages coming from other Twitter users :
https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#search/Direct+message+from
For opening a new tab to see the SPAM emails directly :
https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#spam
These are far from perfect. If you know how to get more targeted results, let me know.
Something I learned yesterday, from a tweet :
http://mashable.com/2010/08/03/gmail-drag-drop-save/
Maybe for many of you, it's old news, but for me, it was great to discover that.
One other thing I received yesterday, I think it was a PDF, to print gmail keyboard shortcuts, it was very well presented. I can't find it right now, I'll update the article when I do.
Update, Sept 7, 2010 : Have you seen Gmail Priorities inbox ? I saw a use immediately. All the Twitter emails I receive arrive there, so much easier to follow-up
Have a wonderful day !
