Apparently Lightning CAN Strike Twice

Aug 18th 2010 at 1:08 AM

I have been blogging for several years now. I started out using Blogger because I had no idea how to use WordPress at the time. Once I learned how to use WordPress I created a free site and after about a year of posting 3 to 5 times a week I found my account locked because of a "Terms of Service Violation" which means I had used too many affiliate links on my blog.

I'm not the kind of person who stays down when I get knocked down so I started over with two distinctly different blogs using a sub-domain despite my knowing a hosted site on my own domain was a better way to go. I set a goal of having 1000 posts in a year on one of those blogs. The deadline I set is September 12th and there are 1242 posts already so I surpassed my goal.

To be completely honest I kept thinking that I should have my blogs on their own domains, but as my blog continued to grow the task of transferring that many posts to a new site wasn't something I wanted to face especially since I was working on building a couple membership sites and writing my first ebook.

To make the decision even more difficult was that my blog posts have been on the top of page one on Google repeatedly for dozens of keywords and my page ranking was up to a PR2 within a few months. Both blogs are linked into so many different sites they would be difficult to list and traffic is heavy on both sites.

I kept thinking, “If it ain't broken, don't try fixing it.”

This morning I got an email message saying the domain my sites are hosted on is closing down. OMG!!! I am either facing the immense task of transferring everything or losing it all again. Apparently lightning CAN strike twice.

Maybe this is for the best. I work with a guy who is a WordPress expert and with his help I can build something much better that will be hosted on my own domain. Plus the more I have used Instant Blog Subscribers the more addicted I become to having 3000 responsive readers reading my reviews.

If you don't have a blog hosted on its own domain maybe you should. I highly recommend Jerry McCoy's New WordPress Plugin.

As an alternative consider Instant Blog Subscribers. It is hot, hot, hot and getting hotter!
