1000 Raving Fans

Jul 13th 2010 at 3:31 AM

I recently moved back to Europe after having come over here seven times in two years to visit my wife and kids while trying to sell our house in the United States.  On one of those flights I read Tribes by Seth Godin which lead me to reading his blog daily.  I read a lot of blogs, but Seth's blog is one of the only blogs I read everyday.

You'll have to read Tribes for yourself, but the bottom line is we each have things that interest us and if something interests us then that same something would interest others. He goes on to say that there is a good chance those others are looking for a leader and that we should become that leader. Sounds a lot like niche marketing, doesn't it?

Later I read on Seth's blog a post referencing Kevin Kelly's theory that artists only need 1000 raving fans that will spend $100 per year to make six figures. For me that was a blazing flash of the obvious, but he has a point.

I know most people on the planet have a life's path that is straight as an arrow. Not mine! I am convinced my life's path was laid out by a drunken goat so some of you may have already seen the transition away from blogging to micro-blogging sites like Twitter.

The problem is that monetizing Twitter is difficult for a lot of people including myself so when I was first introduced to the idea of owning my own membership site it took me awhile to see the advantages until I thought back on Kevin Kelly's theory and it all made sense.

If the idea of owning your own membership site appeals to you than please consider joining us at Membership Scripts Profit. http://membershipscriptprofit.com/index.php?referid=perfectstorm
