|Luisa Florez is a medical examiner based in Lubbock, Texas with 5 years of experience in the field.
Originally, Dr. Florez hails from Cali, Colombia. She completed her Doctor of Medicine at the Universidad del Cauca. In preparation for her career, Dr. Florez enrolled at the Universidad del Valle’s residency program for Pathology. Dr. Florez studied towards her specialty in clinical and anatomic pathology. While in the residency program, she was named chief resident twice.
She then pursued her post-doctoral education as an honorary neuropathology fellow and later a pathology resident at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
In this capacity, Dr. Florez completed several research pieces for the university. She was a contributing author for “Tumors and Phakomatoses,” “Infectious Diseases,” “Degenerative and Demyeliinating Diseases,” as well as others. Notably, she contributed to “A Web Page to Teach Neurology and Neuropathology to Med Students” for the Wiley Online Library.
Beginning in the year 2000, Dr. Florez began working for Louisiana State University. She worked as a Research Associate, specializing in the Genetics Division of the Department of Pediatrics.
To round off her education, Dr. Florez completed a neuropathology fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
In 2009, she worked as an assistant medical examiner for Harris County, Texas in the Houston metropolitan area. Primarily, Dr. Florez aided in cause-of-death cases for the county.
Throughout her career in medicine, Luisa Florez has co-produced original research that has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and Experimental Hematology. For the latter publication, she co-authored "Erythropoietin, a Hypoxia-regulated Factor, Elicits a Pro-angiogenic Program in Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells."
