Resolving QuickBooks Desktop Error Fields Display Black Instead of White

When a user uses QuickBooks Desktop for a longer duration of time, some display issues may be faced by the person. A common display issue you may face is the fields are shown in black instead of white. This error generally occurs in the Desktop version.

What symptoms are faced when QuickBooks Desktop Error fields display black instead of white is shown?

While working with QuickBooks a user may face symptoms like the font sizes are bigger than needed and the screen gets distorted when you minimize or maximize it. Also, on the top right of the window, the sizing icons do not appear.

Another difficulty a user may face is that the transaction form does not fit on the screen or some of the buttons are missing. A field may overwrite and hide its label.

How to resolve QuickBooks Desktop Error fields display black instead of white?

Upon facing an error, it is important to fix it. A user can go through the below-mentioned troubleshooting steps on facing QuickBooks screen goes black issue.

Solution 1: Reboot your PC or laptop on which you are using QuickBooks

Solution 2: Restart your QuickBooks Desktop

  1. Before restarting QuickBooks, you should check it has been properly closed. Check that QBW32.exe file should not be running in the background.
  2. Click Windows Start button > Type Task Manager in a search bar
  3. Select Processes Tab. -> In Windows 10 if the Processes Tab is not shown, then select More Details drop-down.
  4. Find the process named QuickBooks (32 bit) or exe file.
  5. Upon locating it, select it and click End Processor or End Task.
  6. If you are unable to find any files, then all QuickBooks instances have been closed.

Solution 3: To re-register your QuickBooks program files, you need to run reboot.bat

  1. Locate your QuickBooks desktop icon and right-click on it.
  2. Click on ‘open file location’.
  3. Locate your reboot.bat file and right-click on it.
  4. Select Run as Administrator.
  5. Please make sure that you run your reboot.bat file or reboot file, whichever is shown, as the Window Administrator.
  6. A black colored window called The Command Window pops up with names rapidly scrolling in it.
  7. Never manually close this window. It will get closed automatically when the reboot.bat file utility has been completed.
  8. Thoroughly check your QuickBooks that whether the issue has been resolved or not.
  9. If an issue is not resolved, restart your PC or laptop again.

Solution 4: Another solution is to change your windows theme to basic

  1. Select Start button > Click on Control Panel.
  2. In its search box, type Personalisation.
  3. Choose windows basic theme.
  4. Restart your PC or laptop.
  5. Open QuickBooks to ensure the issue is resolved.

Solution 5: You need to update the video card drivers to their latest version.

  1. Click on Start button > Control Panel > Device Manager.
  2. Locate a video card icon and right click on it.
  3. Click on ‘update driver software’.

Solution 6: Another solution is to edit the QBW.ini file

  1. Close your QuickBooks software.
  2. Select the Windows Buttons.
  3. As per you QuickBooks version, type or copy and paste the correct file path mentioned below and hit enter.

· QuickBooks 2019: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks 2019QBW.ini

· Enterprise Solutions 19.0: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 19.0QBW.ini

· QuickBooks 2018: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks 2018QBW.ini

· Enterprise Solutions 18.0: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 18.0QBW.ini

· QuickBooks 2017: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks 2017QBW.ini

· Enterprise Solutions 17.0: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 17.0QBW.ini

· QuickBooks 2016: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks 2016QBW.ini

· Enterprise Solutions 16.0: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 16.0QBW.ini

· QuickBooks 2015: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks 2015QBW.ini

· Enterprise Solutions 15.0: C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 15.0QBW.ini

After the above steps, go to the end of the file and copy-paste the following text into the file.

[COLORS]

Classic=0

Then save the QWB.ini file and open QuickBooks.
