The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man. --George Bernard Shaw

Americans Know Who to Trust
I saw a new survey conducted by Gallup that found that Americans’ confidence levels in the military and small business surpassed even their confidence in the medical system, police forces and the nation’s public schools.
They found that 78 percent of Americans surveyed said they have a "great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in the military, and 64 percent said the same thing about small businesses. In fact, law enforcement was the only other one that saw high confidence levels from more than 50 percent of those surveyed. [And it was no surprise that Congress ranked last.]
Here is how the confidence rankings broke down:
- Church or organized religion: 48 percent
- Medical system: 39 percent
- U.S. Supreme Court: 37 percent
- Presidency: 35 percent
- Public schools: 34 percent
- Criminal justice system: 28 percent
- Newspapers: 28 percent
- Television news: 27 percent
- Banks: 23 percent
- Organized labor: 21 percent
- Big business: 19 percent
- Health maintenance organizations: 19 percent
- Congress: 12 percent
This is probably one of the best lists I have seen of what is good and bad about the U.S. It shows that the citizens of this country really do know what is right and wrong with our society. And it makes it quite apparent that being a small business person is the right place to be.
