I have a question for the group. Has anyone noticed any change in search engine rankings after a heavy promotion in traffic exchanges? I am curious as to how much weight the links from your splash pages will carry with the search engines. Are these links even indexed? I would love to hear from everyone who may have some experience with this, especially all you TE owners here.

Hi Bill!

I am not TE owner but I don't think so there will be any changes on search engine ranking, search engine only love indexing content pages. If look at pages promoted at TEs mostly are Squeeze pages to get leads. Have a great day Bill :)

When using splash pages, you have to remember that the only reason people use them is to build their email list when you opt in.

Google does not index splash pages in TEs. You need to have content that has value to be indexed and ranked by Google.

TEs are just a way of getting the members of the sites to see your site, it has nothing to do with Google at all.

Terri,

Once again you are right on! Blogs are really the way to go if you want to position yourself as an expert in your field giving valuable content to your readers that they can take away and actually use.

You can market your blog in so many different ways, I really recommend it!

Melissa

Thanks for the responses. I never expected a splash to get ranked. I was wondering if the backlinks to a particular page would help with SEO efforts. I have promoted my blog in TE's in the past, but not in some times now.

Hey Bil,

I was told that the backlists were effected by TE's as in they wouldn't work. I don' t know if that's true - this isn't my area of expertise, and I guess it depends which blogging system you are using.

Do you use Social Media to drive traffic to your blog? Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn....just to name a few....you can position yourself as an expert in your field by adding great content at all of these sites. People will actually come to you.

And whenever you post, you can add your link so that people can see what you're all about.

Just a thought,

Melissa

@Bill a good way to get back links to your website, is to use the social bookmarking sites. I have several that I can share with you.
This is a sure way to get your website on the first page on the search engines.

Thanks to you both Melissa and Terri. I had a feeling that the search engines would ignore the links in exchanges, but not sure.

Melissa, I have promoted in social media sites, but again, not lately. I actually let my blog sit for a couple months during the summer, so I didn't want to drive traffic to it at the time with no current information. I also want to do some major changes to it soon, so I haven't been focusing on it in quite some time.

As for social bookmarking, Terri, I tried it with a few affiliate campaigns when I was first getting started, but have not used them in a long time either. I didn't really get how they worked back then. I made a LOT of mistakes in the early days.

Thanks Bill!

I also have a wp blog that I haven't done a thing with in months....I have gutted it...no widgets or fb badge etc...so it looks crappy.

One word of advice that I will always heed. Never delete anything. People will find their way to your stuff...sometimes by accident. I had a sale from an affiliate product I had advertised in a blog but hadn't touched it in ages. 6 months later I got a sale.

You can always go back and revamp.

I am also just starting a new venture and am in the set up phase. It's a little frustrating....you know how it is....you want everything now LOL

Thanks again Bill!

Melissa

Hi again Melissa,

My blog still has a lot of old stuff on it that I would no longer recommend or am no longer involved with.

I know what you mean. I am working on a new project myself. Let's trade when we get to that point.

Bill
