Xbox 360 E74 Encounter
2011-02-09T10:05:00.000-08:00
Did you got a message saying that you have E74 error when you turn the power on your console? If you encountered this xbox error only once - it's nothing to worry about. At least for now. But if it shows up every time you turn the power on, it could be a real pain in the ass.
It's a video chip problem (either bad contact or problem with video chip itself), and sometimes problems with your AV cable can cause this as well. So what to do?
I heard about "Shamanistic" ways of removing this problem. First one is to actually put your xbox console in a refrigerator (yeap..) for 10 minutes. Some dudes say that in 90% error will vanish for ever. I didn't tried it personally, but it's a bit risky I think. After all you fix e74 temporarily, but there's a chance of damaging the console permanently.
Second one, is to heat your console with a hair dryer, a bit (This error sometimes appears in winter, when console is really cold). Tried it, it can help for an hour or two, but usually after that error returns.
If your chip has bad contact with motherboard you can fix it by changing thermal paste. Not always, but it could help.
The bad part is - there is a rumor that xbox E74 error can't be "healed" for ever, it will appear again sooner or later. So changing console could be an option here... -
xbox 360 E71 Error Fix
2010-10-30T09:10:00.000-07:00
E71 is one of the least encountered problems. This error is not related to overheating of your console, like the ring of death. It is caused by failed console update. You can fix this pretty easy.
First way is formatting your hard disk. This way you will get rid of this error for sure, but you will lose all your data, that's why it is not really a good "exchange". Though if you still want to do it you need to start your xbox 360 without a disk, in the menu that will appear go to the memory tab. Then just select your hard disk and press "Y", after that select "format" option, and choose yes. Done!
Second way is restoring original factory settings. Run your console without a disk again, then go into the system settings, (guide button on your controller) then > console settings. And prepare to use this combination = "left trigger" + "right trigger" + X + Y + "left bumper" + "right bumper" + Y + "up" + "left" + "up". Probably you will fail at first time. Just keep it at even speed, don't rush.
And you can also send your console to Microsoft, lol. Though I don't recommend this. Too pricey, and too long. But it is not the error you should be afraid off. You will get rid of it pretty easy. Nice Playing! :)
