Having this system has its advantages as well. Even though it can be tedious having to go back and follow those who have followed you, now you aren't automatically following every spammer who knows that their link will cross your eyes if we are friends.

I unashamedly admit that I DO NOT follow everyone that follows me. I do look at their profile and investigate what they are into, and what their goals are. If we share similar goals, then I will follow back; but if they look as though all they do is post links and spam, or just don't have any content at all, I don't.
