How to Make Your Bedroom Cosier

Mar 14th 2019 at 11:23 PM

If you're reading this article, you're probably every bit of a bed-lover as I am. Some people see the bedroom as a place to just sleep and bond, but I see it as a place to spend time away from the rest of the world, where I can relax and chill out.

Of course, to do that, the space has to be as comfortable as possible. As someone who is well versed in the skill of creating a cosy bedroom, I have decided to share my favourite tips to make sure my bedroom is the perfect sanctuary to escape the everyday world – goodness knows, we need it every once in a while!

The Floor

The first thing to get right is your choice of floor – in a minute, I’m going to be talking about underfloor heating mats, but for this section, I’m talking about what’s above the subfloor, namely, carpet.

In my opinion, no floor is better for cosiness than a nice thick carpet – wooden floors are good if you have a lovely thick rug, but they don’t quite match up to a lovely carpet. It feels amazing on your feet.

You also want to add some comfort-extras to the space. This means adding a stylish rug. I like to place mine at the front of the bed so it acts, sort of, like a doorstep mat. I do feel posh stepping onto it after a bath and getting into bed. It almost feels like an extra level of cleanliness, as if I'm wiping my already clean feet to get in to my ultra-clean bed.

The Heating

Now, bedrooms are meant to be kept slightly cooler than other rooms in the home, simply because most of us sleep best in a cooler environment. However, if you like to spend time relaxing, rather than sleeping, you might want the room to be quite hot. You definitely need a radiator or underfloor heating.

Personally, underfloor heating mats are my all-time best choice for my living room and bedroom. Nothing compares to walking on a warm floor, especially when you're tired and looking to relax at the end of a day. Just writing about this subject is making me wish I was in bed!

The Bed

Well, this is the masterpiece of the entire room. Aside from getting a good quality bed, you can add some extras to make it look even cosier than a normal bed. Add a throw at the bottom to add contrast to the sheets. Put some extra pillows on top to use to prop yourself up when you're using our bed for reading. And, keep a hot water bottle nearby for those winter nights!

It’s not difficult to create a cosy bedroom, but when you do, it can really transform your life. Believe me, as someone who suffers from anxiety, creating a welcoming space like that is my perfect sanctuary.
