If you’re not preselling, you’re losing money

If you want to make more money as an affiliate, you must presell.

Before we begin, we need to first define what preselling is. Preselling is both an art and a science. The goal is to get your reader prepped to make a purchase. Then when they’re ready, refer them to the product website so they can buy it. And when it’s done correctly, they don’t know it’s happening.

Basically, you give them some content. Then send them to the sales page. In just a minute, I’ll explain exactly how to presell. But before we do, you need to know why it’s so important. Some major benefits of this process:

  • It helps your reader trust you – Readers who trust you are more likely to click your links. And the more traffic you can send to the sale page, the more commissions you’ll earn.
  • It takes your reader out of defense mode – When you’re preselling vs. pitching, you’re reader doesn’t feel the need to be guarded. And in turn they read to understand what you’re saying. And your intention is conveyed more easily.
  • It puts them in a buying mood – Now they trust you and feel open to your message. So they become more receptive to other messages. For example, the sales message on the page you’re linking to. Being open to a sales message is what it means being in a buying mood.
  • It increases your sales – Now your reader arrives at the sales page in a buying mood. With the guard down and trusting your recommendation. The only thing that can result is increased sales!
  • It boosts customer loyalty – Your referral now feels like they decided to buy. Instead of feeling pressured or “sold”. And this leads to greater satisfaction with the product.
  • Preselling increases your bottom line – Satisfied customers are less like to refund. Which means you keep more of your affiliate commissions.

The need to presell is clear. You earn more commissions. And produce happier customers. Everybody wins!

Now, here’s how preselling works:

OK, now you understand why it’s so important. So, hopefully you’ve decided to start preselling. So, let’s talk about how to make it work. Like we talked about before, it’s an art. And it’s a science.

Becoming an artist

The first step is in getting your readers to trust you and open up. Honestly, the only way to do this is to provide real value in you content. Now, providing enough info to be useful, but still making them want more – that’s the art of it. That is, they have to be wanting more when you refer them to the product sales page for the product you’re trying to sell. And because you’ve gained trust, they’re more receptive to the sales message and more likely to buy.

It’s also a science

You also have to include some very specific things.

One of these key elements is the presentation of the information. You have to have your end in mind. In the end, you want to sell a specific product. How can providing information accomplish this goal? The first method is to provide enough info to get them started, but not enough to finish. The second way is to provide all the information and let your reader discover how hard it is to actually implement it. Either way, the product sales page solves the problem.

But you can’t link to your affiliate link. You have directly to the home page of the product. This increases your clicks. But how will you earn affiliate commissions if you don’t use your affiliate link? Well, that’s part of the science of this whole process. You use an image tag to cookie your reader before they leave your site.

You also want to link to the sales page from inside your article’s content. It’s habitual to click on words and phrases that are hyperlinked. Plus, if you link on relevant words, it only makes sense to click on there.

Putting all of this together creates a powerful affiliate marketing formula for success.

Now for the bad news…

Doing all of this right is really hard! Think about everything that goes into crafting an effective preselling article: Awesome content. First of all, you actually have to write great articles and give value to your readers. Which means you need to be both knowledgable on the subject and capable of writing a high-quality article. Writing to presell. First, you have to give good information. And you have to make the content accessible in order to provide value. While at the same time making them want more. Or make the information so overwhelming they realize they can’t do it on their own.

Product selection. Next, you’ve got to pick the right product to presell. Even if you can pull off writing and great article. Your efforts are completely wasted if you don’t pick a winning product.

Technical skills. To be most effective you have to use the “covert cookie” method. This is actually pretty simple – just embed a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image and set your affiliate link as the “source” of the image. (But if you do it wrong, you won’t get paid for the traffic you send.)

Now you know what it takes to be a Presell Pro. Preselling properly will boost your affiliate profits up to 500%! It’s absolutely critical to do this every time – and to do it correctly. Take action now. Make the extra effort required to propel your affiliate business to the next level.

Affiliate marketing is not for everybody. The majority (70%) of people do not like to be sold, and for sure they don't want to be the one selling it. Only about 15% will say 'YES' to selling and when you look at the numbers. I will go with the majority and show them how they can have residual income just by getting a large group of people to do a few simple things over time. It's what's work, and I'm sorry to say I disagree with several things in your article. LOL to you.

Interesting to see how the presell is done from an affiliate point of view Cindy.

I use what may be a reverse marketing technique. I choose products that will help me in my business and become an affiliate after I know it works first.

By pre-selling myself readers get to know my values and then choose what they need for their business.

While it does take longer to make 'money', the personal and business relationships I build along the way (in my opinion) are far more valuable than any profit I may make. :-) Soroya
