Businesses That May Require Commercial Auto Insurance

Jan 29th 2015 at 11:33 PM

Large and small businesses should be covered by commercial auto insurance policy. Commercial auto insurance is essential because it covers vans, trucks and cars that are used to conduct business. Commercial auto insurance is necessary for any business, whether small or large, that require vehicles to carry out most of its activities. Like pizza business, ice cream business or flower delivery.

What is commercial vehicle insurance?

Commercial auto insurance is a cover that gives protection to tow truck drivers, couriers, snow plow operators, truck drivers, pizza delivery guys and business owners. Most personal car insurance also applies to commercial auto insurance. Auto insurance policy applies to:

· Medical payments
· Uninsured motorist
· Bodily injury liability
· Collision
· Property damage
· Comprehensive

Commercial auto insurance covers physical damage and liability for usage, amounts and situations not covered under personal auto policy. Knowing the difference between the two, personal auto insurance and commercial auto insurance, is important for your business. This type of insurance covers a range of vehicles. It is also referred to as, fleet insurance, commercial car insurance or truck insurance.

Why do you need commercial vehicle insurance?

Certain businesses and vehicles are not covered by personal policies. This is because personal auto policy is not meant for businesses - they are two different things. As a business owner you need certain covers that are in commercial auto insurance policy.
Determining whether you require a commercial auto insurance coverage is confusing. This is why I have taken this time to elaborate about the same.

What does commercial vehicle insurance cover?

Just like personal auto policy, commercial auto insurance covers similar things like collision, liability, medical payments, uninsured motorist and comprehensive coverage. But, there are differences between the two. These include definitions, eligibility, exclusions, limits and coverages.

What is covered under auto insurance cover?

Bodily injury liability

· This covers bodily injury or even death due to accidents caused by business vehicles.
· It provides you with a legal defense.

Property damage

· It insures any property accidentally damaged by your vehicle.
· It also provides you with a legal defense.

Combined single limit

· This type of policy covers all damages the same way.
· Whether body injury, property damage, one or several people.

Medical payments

· It usually pays for medical expenses, in case of an accident, for those that were in your vehicle.

Uninsured motorist

· It usually pays for your damages caused by uninsured driver.

Comprehensive

· This one covers damages on your vehicle caused by flood, fire, vandalism and other insured hazards.

As the owner or driver of a commercial vehicle, you have to take some or all the coverages. Even if you don’t want, it is wise to have them. Accidents are sometimes inevitable. The covers may save you an embarrassing situation by protecting all your business vehicles. Commercial auto insurance can also save you financially.

If you are new in the United Kingdom, and you want to start a business, you need a National insurance number.
