|· Using WordPress For Your Marketing
|I am a web developer, blogger, semi-pro poker player, darts hustler, beer drinker, recreational gold miner, writer, product developer, graphic artist, internet marketer... and so much more.
I have been making my living, full-time, on the internet for the past 14+ years. Before that I owned a computer store where approximately one-third of our $2m+ yearly sales were from online marketing. I guess you could say that I know a thing or two about making money online.
I split my time between my hometown of Henryetta, OK and my adopted home town of South Park... ummm... I mean Salida, CO
Check out my list of sites... Why can I only list ten??? I guess I could do another list... LOL
Why You Need Mobile Friendly Websites
I have been blogging about mobile blogs and websites quite a bit recently and the more that I looked into it, the more that I knew that my sites needed to be mobile ready. There are 4 times as many cell phone users on this planet than computer users! And...
Google recently paid $750 million dollars for Admob, a content ad business for mobile devices! Still don't think mobile is that big?
I started a small experiment a couple of months ago tracking the number of visitors that I am getting to my websites via mobile devices like smartphones (iPhone, Android), internet tablets (iPad, Asus E-series), PDAs, etc. I added the Wordpress Mobile Pack plugin to ten of my sites (Its since been added to all of them) to make them mobile compatible without doing too much else.
After the first month I was receiving around 4% of my traffic from mobile devices. Not a huge amount but it did add up to almost 16K hits over the ten sites I was tracking.
I'm not sure how you feel, but 16 thousand hits per month is more than reason enough to have a mobile friendly site. But it gets better!
I just recently checked my second months stats and was totally blown away! Between the ten sites, I averaged just over 10% of the traffic from mobile devices or about 42,000 website hits. This equates to a 250%+ increase in the mobile traffic in just 30 days!
The smallest amount of mobile traffic for one site was 5% and the highest 13%. Only one other site had less than 10% mobile traffic. Out of ten sites, eight had 10% or greater mobile traffic! Your websites need to be mobile ready or you are going to miss out on a lot of potential customers.
If you are using Wordpress for a blog site or as a Content Management System for another type of site, adding the totally free Wordpress Mobile Pack plugin is easy and will work as soon as you activate it without any configuration on your part. There are some options to choose from if you wish, but if you are just trying to meet the needs of your mobile visitors, there really is nothing to do but install and activate it.
There are plugins and add-ons for other CMS platforms like Joomla out there too, so upgrading your site to be mobile friendly shouldn't be that hard. If you are not using a CMS or have a custom built site, there are scripts and services available to redirect visitors to a mobile ready version of your site... But that topic is best saved for another day.
BTW, I am giving away an iPod Touch to someone who downloads the free report.
