Travelling through China this Summer.

This summer I travelled extensively through China, I completed my work at a school in Sichuan Province in mid June and apart from a three or four week period in July/August I was free until early September.

My first trip was a relatively short one, three hours by express bus to the city of Chongqing and a visit to the offices of the company I work for. I had to sign a contract for the summer school I would be attending and just give some feedback on how things were progressing at my school. I stayed in the city for a few days and waited for my girlfriend to arrive from her home province of Guangxi far to the south.

After one or two days back in my apartment at the school and learning of a Swedish/Chinese couple in my girlfriends hometown wishing to meet up with me the only time we could realistically see them was sooner rather than later so securing a spot for each of us we took a sleeper train south to Guangxi and after 20 hours we arrived at 4.00am and in her small town there are about 5 hotels and the first three we tried would not accept foreigners, believe me it is no fun walking around at that time in the morning with your bags trying to find a safe place to sleep. Eventually we found one that would accept us (or mainly me), and settled in for a stay and for me to meet family and friends of my girlfriend.

We stayed down there almost two weeks before heading back north to Sichuan, then across to Hangzhou and work. We then heading further north to Beijing before changing direction and southwards towards Xian and a return to Chongqing and finally a return to school at the end of August and time to prepare for a new term/semester and also time to save some money and plan where to visit during my next break at the beginning of the year.
