The Brotherhood: Bikers in India

Jan 5th 2016 at 3:16 AM

When you walk into a cafe that’s got a bunch of beautiful rides lined up outside, it isn’t too difficult to figure out who they belong to. Just look for the loudest and most upbeat group around! Whenever biker groups meet up, the conversation is heavily laced with motor oil and you can almost smell the scent of hot tyres in the air.  Basically, we bikers live and breathe the ride. Rather than having a series of destinations, we view life as one long journey, with beautiful pit stops along the way.

Whether you are meeting new bikers at random, or catching up with old riding buddies, the fire and passion for life’s many adventures is visible from afar. We tend to be quite animated and energetic (to some non-riders dismay) when talking about our love for the road, and everything that comes with it. Break down the intricate conversations we share with fellow bikers in India, and figure out exactly what makes our gatherings tick.

1. It’s not about the destination, it’s more about the journey.

We all love to discuss the marvelous places we have been to and how amazing the ride really was. But unlike people who jump on a plane to arrive at their mark, we feel the journey is as much part of the experience as the final destination. Some things commonly exchanged are how the road has treated you, was it smooth sailing, or were you jumping up and down? Did you see anything that took your breath away while riding (always a yes)? Was there anything you could have done to ease the journey for you and your fellow riders? Pretty much all that bikers do on Trails of India.

2. Hilarious things non-bikers say to us.

"The roads have become really bad these days. Riding a motorbike is not safe at all!” Haven’t we all heard that one before? Well, if it’s not safe to drive a motorbike then don’t think the road is any safer for cars either! Sharing funny comments people have passed now and again helps reaffirm our love for motor biking even more.  Another one is “Ride safe.”  Right, like we were planning on heading into oncoming traffic with our eyes closed, but since you’ve mentioned it, we’ll be safe.

3. Sharing riding tips we have picked up on our adventures.

A good rider is always up to learn something which helps them improve, and is also keen on sharing knowledge accumulated over time. Whether it’s discussing the routes with the most number of mechanics, or talking about the perfect pit stop to rest your aching body, any suggestions are always appreciated.

4. How much we love the fact we are bikers, and appreciate the support from our brotherhood.

Biker groups may seem intimidating at first, but we are usually the nicest people you will ever meet, and quite happy as well. We love to ride, and that’s exactly what we do. Appreciating our fellow riders and the support system we have created is another big part of our conversations. This fosters the growth of our community, and our safety as individual riders.
