Wildlife lovers invariably make their way to India whenever they start planning a trip out. And once in India, chances are that Corbett National park is where they will head to. The park is located in the state of Uttaranchal and is loved by wildlife aficionados. Reason for this is quiet obviously the rich and varied wildlife of the park. However, apart from this, the park is also known for its heritage. Jim Corbett, the legendary naturalist writer, carried out his work in the areas in and around what is today the Corbett National Park. The area became the hotspot for his adventurous sojourns. Apart from this, the park also holds the distinction of being the first Tiger Reserve of India and the oldest National Park of Asia.

The park can be accessed from New Delhi. Buses and trains are available from Delhi to reach Ramnagar which is the headquarters of Corbett Tiger Reserve. Haldwani, Kashipur, Kathgodam and Moradabad also offer bus and train services to reach the Corbett Tiger reserve. The tiger reserve, for the sake of better tourist management, has been segregated into five tourism zones, each of which has an entrance gate of its own. The five zones are

Bijrani, Dhikala, Jhirna, Domunda and Sonanadi. Their entrance gates, in the order given above, are Amadanda, Dhangari, Khara, Durgadevi and Vatanvasa. Entrance to the park requires permit which is available at the entrance gate. If a night halt is intended, then permit needs to be obtained from the CTR reception office at Ramnagar. For night halts, accommodation options are available at Dhikala, Gairal and Bijrani tourists' complex.

For the purpose of exploring the park, there are conducted safaris. Visitors can also bring in their own vehicle or hired ones.

And now the most interesting topic - what are the animals that can bee seen in the park? Tigers, for sure, are the prime attraction of the park, but there is no certainty that tourists will get to see the beautiful creature. However, the park has many more attractions to see. These include The Asian Elephant, Deer, Leopard, Rhesus Macaque, Wild boar, Himalayan Goral and Asiatic Jackal. The avian world of Corbett is made up of numerous varieties of Pelicans, Darters, Storks, Flamingo, Egrets, Hawks, eagles, Falcons, cranes, pigeons, doves, cuckoo, owl, Kingfishers, woodpeckers, skylarks, flycatcher and many more.

Corbett is not only a paradise for wildlife lovers. It is equally interesting for those who adore nature and her beauty. Mountains, Sal forest, chaurs, khair-sissoo forests, and rivers lend Corbett a beauty that is unparalleled. Flowering trees add color to the pristine beauty of the park. The heartwarming white and pink beauty of Kachnaar, the brilliant red of semal, glowing orange of Dhak and bright yellow of Amaltas offer a treat for visual senses of tourists.

Those who love wildlife areas and have not visited Corbett as yet are surely missing out something. Tourists can plan their trip all by themselves or take the assistance of any of the numerous tour operators in India. They offer well planned out package which can help tourists enjoy a hasselfree trip. Some such packages are mentioned below.
