5th GLOBAL SPA SUMMIT 2011 held in fabulous Bali
The Global Spa Summit (GSS), the leading annual event for the Spa and Wellness Industry executive heads from around the globe will, for the first time in its five-year history, convene in Asia, on the fabled island of Bali, Indonesia . Held from May 15th to 18th , 2011 at the Bali International Convention Center for Summit sessions, the Spa Summit further invites delegates to the Laguna Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali, - a fantastic five-star beachfront property that is part of Starwood's Luxury Collection, - for the Welcome Dinner and the closing session.
Delegates from diverse sectors including hospitality, tourism, finance, medicine, real estate, manufacturing, technology, consulting, product and other related industries are scheduled to attend this high-level gathering focused on advancing the Spa and Wellness sector.
Bearing the theme “Engage the Change: The Customer,The Money, The Future”, the Summit will focus its spotlight on the fastest-growing global spa, hotel and tourism markets in Asia. A key focus of the agenda will be to explore the diverse, emerging spa and wellness markets; investment opportunities; and hospitality/tourism models across the Asia-Pacific region, the fastest growing hotel and spa economy in the world.
Leading the Global Spa Summit 2011 will be its three co-chairs for 2011, each of whom has served as Summit board member since its inception in 2007. The first is Anne McCall Wilson, Vice President Spas, Fairmont Raffles Hotels International, Canada, who is the driving force behind the Spa Division for Fairmont Hotels International Inc. With over than 20 years experience in the hospitality industry with international chains like Four Seasons and Hilton Hotels, Jeff Matthews, President & COO of Mandara Spas, Indonesia , is a resident of (and expert on) Bali, who also co-chairs the summit. The 3rd co chair is Susie Ellis, President of SpaFinder Inc, United States of America who has led the world’s largest spa media and marketing company and is recognized as the driving force behind the transformation of the spa industry from a narrower market sector to the mega-industry that we know today.
The summit is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia was announced as the summit’s Platinum Sponsor. The GSS and the Ministry will work together to promote the growth of the worldwide spa and wellness industries, and to highlight Bali’s and Indonesia’s traditional and - fast developing -modern spa culture.
Director General for Marketing of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Sapta Nirwandar, commented that with her long history and variety of traditional spas in the country, Indonesia is well placed to host this prestigious event. Moreover, Indonesia has for centuries produced the spices that are the main ingredients used in Spa treatment. A dinner: “A Journey to the Eden of the East will be hosted at the Summer Garden of the Westin Hotel, on 17 May.
The Global Spa Summit will also include the 3rd Annual Student Challenge as part of the program. The Student Challenge is a competition for masters or graduate students, in fields of study relevant to the spa and wellness industry. While the logistics of the Student Challenge vary slightly from year to year, the focus is always on developing or designing a spa of the future. This year, the challenge revolves around Developing a profitable spa concept and design in conjunction with a spa architect or designer. Contestants listed for the challenge are The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong); Cornell Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management (Singapore); Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia); and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong).
Designed to be a high-level gathering of top industry executives, GSS will bring together decision makers from around the world and will be the scene where everyone can contribute his or her time and expertise, as well as resources in shaping the future of spa and wellness industries.
