Video Mail Proves Easy, Fun for Newbie

Oct 25th 2010 at 6:14 PM

When it comes to most technology, I admit I am a complete noob (so much so that I had to look up that word to make sure it meant what I thought it did.)

I was asked to create my first video email and I was a little hesitant, intrigued by the concept, but still unsure that I would do it correctly. In the interest of full disclosure, I should add that I am working with mailVu, handling editorial content for the site’s social media and marketing.

My natural introversive instincts and anxiety quickly dissipated once my wonderful husband brought up the web page for mailVu.com. I reminded myself that my messages were only going to those closest to me and using video mail didn’t seem as complicated as I made myself think. All I had to do was click ‘allow’ in the mail view window and begin talking into the tiny camera built into the laptop. I couldn’t believe it was really that easy to create free video mail.

It really was that easy though. I wanted to send video mail to everyone I knew. My almost non-existent extrovert had come out and wanted to play!

A few of the video mail features I really liked:

  • Ease of use – it took mere moments to pull up the interface, get access for the camera and

  • No account creation – I did not have to create a login or another password to remember. There were also no complex privacy settings.

  • Quick access – those I emailed a video to got them pretty much instantaneously.

  • Self-destruct/delete feature – I was able to set the number of views for my messages. I randomly selected five views for one message and once those were done, the video was no longer accessible. MailVu also allowed me to set up a number of days to keep the video mail available.

I really enjoyed using video email and will continue for the foreseeable future. With email use still prevalent in homes and business throughout the world, this service adds another, more personal component. With it, setup is fast and so simple even the most technologically unsavvy person can be ready to send videos free in minutes.

As a personal aside, I will never have to worry about my whether or not my sparkling since of humor comes shining through using a written message – my video email recipients can see it firsthand .
