PLC and SCADA training is crucial for automation engineers looking to build careers in industrial automation. PLC (programmable logic controller) is a digital computer, which is used to control industrial machinery. As the name indicates, its circuit is programmable. A conditional logic can be derived from its circuit for different uses. While general computers can support few inputs, outputs, PLCs can support many. These devices can detect varying temperature changes and alert the staff based on preconfigured criteria. PLCs are built to be immune to electrical noise, so this won't affect the output. Rack – The rack is the hardware that supports the PLC, with integrated cards to communicate with the CPU. The Rack has a power supply point for regulated DC power supply to one or more PLC modules held within.
CPU – The dynamics of the CPU depend on the complexity requirements of the system. The CPU has a microprocessor, memory chip and several integrated circuits. It has several modes such as programming mode and run mode and many more. The CPU's job is to process the downloaded logic from the PLC, execute the logic, and update the outputs.
What is SCADA and how is it different from PLC?
Expanded as Supervisory, Control, and Data Acquisition, SCADA is a computer based control system. This system communicates with PLC and controls the latter. One can say that PLC is the hardware, whereas SCADA is the software that combine to achieve industrial automation. SCADA helps industrial automation personnel gather data and analyze it from a single window. The system can be integrated and set,up to monitor multiple PLC devices. A PLC is a sub-system of a SCADA system which is comprised of several other sub-systems, namely Remote Terminal Units, Telemetry system, Human-machine Interface, Data Acquisition Server, Historian software service, Process and Analytical Instrumentation etc.
