Pipeline Repair Clamps – Crucial Information

Oct 16th 2014 at 1:20 AM

One of the feasible ways to ensure both temporary and permanent repair to damaged pipelines is using Pipeline repair clamps or Split Sleeve Repair Clamps (SSRC). The clamps consist of two halves, which are joined by means of nearly tangential bolting so as to produce high integrity pressure vessel surrounding the damaged area of the pipeline.

When any pipeline is affected, it is provided with primary sealing using the finest grade molded elastomer seals. The elastomer seals are selected in exact accordance with the pipeline product, its environment and other physical attributes to ensure proper functioning. This sealing is achieved through two intersecting longitudinal and two circumferential packing seals, which are fully compressed to form a continuous pressure barrier.

An SSRC is made to suit a specified Nominal Bore (NB) pipe and will take into account the tolerances as specified in the standards.

Notable design considerations for the pipe clamps to be used for heavy duty applications are:

•Safety features: The clamps should be fully compensatory pressure vessels, and hydrostatically tested to 1.5 times the rated working pressure. Furthermore, they should be equipped with purge or vent ports.

•Installation and maintenance convenience: The clamps should be easy to install using the most common tools available along with allowing easy field repair facilities, and also ensuring full seal replacement.

•Industry standards: Clamps are designed and tested to ASME VIII

Trustworthiness: Products have to be designed using proven materials and technology for reliable applications even under extreme conditions.

•Cost-effectiveness: These Clamps must be designed as per the latest technology, permitting optimization of design techniques and materials in order to yield lower bending and reduced weight tendencies for an economical range of products.

Working with a technician who is proficient in handling all the technicalities is always recommended to leave no scope for any flaw.

Similarly, there are other credentials too, which must be considered to ensure technology is being used in a profitable way to repair damages.
