Location Based Services poised to become the next big thing

Location Based Services (LBS) have been around the block for a few years now. Although they were used on a regular basis, brands or tech giants did not see how the technology could grow and can be monetized. The most robust example of this would be Google Maps – an app that essentially establishes the user’s location through GPS to help him or her with directions and other map related services.

However, earlier LBS were limited to maps and navigation as tech companies or brands did not see how to leverage this technology. All that has changed now and companies have realized a way to maximize this offering and get audience hooked into it.

Late in 2014, Facebook announced that it will be starting something called as micro marketing. Essentially what the social media giant meant was that it will start to use located based data and target ads based on the same knowledge. For example, if a brand like ‘Gap’ would like to target people only living in and around Colaba in Mumbai, they can do so through Facebook. This would make marketing extremely narrow and to the point.

Location can be used in a very specific way, especially with all the data that social media & tech companies are gathering. Google tracks all your data, starting from when you wake up &where to how many times you have visited which Starbucks and left the coffee shop at what time. Currently, it can also track when you are driving your car and when you are not.

Such data can determine your favorite spots to visit, favorite brand where you shop from, favorite eatery and a host of other such information. The same information can then be used to give you special discounts, loyalty bonuses, free promotional materials and various other offers.

However, to run such apps and services, a company must use a LBS WiFi enabled technology. A LBS WiFi enabled system would allow the customers to log into the WiFi for free and take them through a resident app or a web page designed specifically for the customers.

A digital marketing company called Centerac Technologies specializes in LBS WiFi and other web solutions. Their product EzPresso has been designed to cater specifically to innovative WiFi based solutions.
