DeLorme Earthmate PN-60 Review

Aug 12th 2012 at 9:56 PM

DeLorme has given the InReach not only functions with which it is as a communicator and emergency stations for DeLorme Earthmate PN-60 even the most remote outdoor play area is recommended, but also the right technology.

The case makes it visually very stable and reliable impression. The specifications support this impression: water and dust proof to IP67, floatable and impact protection in accordance with military standards (MIL STD 810F). The case is with dimensions of 8.6 x 7.2 x 4.4 inches (HxWxD) but quite large, the antenna is also measured with a height of as much as 12.1 cm. It weighs 233g, including two lithium batteries.

On the front there are 4 buttons, a slider for locking the SOS button and several LED's. Top right corner on the housing DeLorme has a sufficiently large eyelet for attaching the supplied wrist strap or a thin accessory cord integrated. On the back there is a very stable, also appearing clip. The bottom of the cabinet's battery compartment is opened by means of two D-ring screws. The battery itself protects a continuous seal against moisture, in the discipline are two connections, one of which is designed as a microUSB and firmware updates (can be on the DeLorme website explore.delorme.com easily be carried out with a few clicks!) .

The power supply is best carried out by two AA lithium batteries, which should be at the time with a tracking interval of 10 minutes 60 hours. If other types (alkaline, NiMH) are used, the battery should be changed profile (see: InReach 1.1 firmware update release notes). To an external power source can not operate the InReach it.
