Apply These 8 Secret Techniques To Improve Edi Data Integration Methods And Guides

May 12th 2020 at 1:21 AM

Integration of EDI data is an essential part of any successful business implementation of the Electronic Data Interchange. Integration of EDI data is important since most business applications allow an EDI transaction in its raw format for processing. This means that integration software needs to be in the centre, translating the EDI transaction into the format that the business application accepts. The business application must include the 'doorway' to make the 'enter' of a transaction in one of two ways:

· The integration software 'walks through the door' and communicates directly with the client.

· The integration software hands out the transaction at the 'door' and the business client takes over.

Both methods are acceptable but ultimately the business application decides which one should be used.

Collection at inbound and outbound. Integration is a bidirectional process. While publishing an EDI transaction, such as an order, is most common in an accounting / ERP (inbound) method, a transaction such as an invoice (outbound) must also be retrieved from the document.

Any format for the data will work. Though EDI integration is the primary format discussed here, the concepts of integration refer also to other data formats, such as XML and TXT. If your company has a website that accepts customer orders, then you can use the same concepts and technologies to combine your website with the accounting / ERP program.

Use Outsourcing for EDI. If you have an EDI project in-house, or you are using a third party to outsource EDI, the integration process is the same.

Do-it-yourself or buying tools for the installation. If you have IT workers with EDI and business application expertise, integration can be achieved without buying integration tools. To most businesses, buying software is more economical than doing it yourself.

Application in home-grown sector. If you have a business application developed by your IT staff, then the process of integration is the same. The only difference is that you decide how EDI will be incorporated into your program, instead of the software publisher.
