Below are three electrician careers options that an individual may find interesting. There are three main types of electricians namely: residential, commercial and industrial electrician. It is therefore important for an aspiring student to know which area they intend to specialize early enough in the course of training.

Residential/commercial electrician

As a residential or commercial electrician, your work will be mostly around people’s homes, residential buildings and business premises. The two are types of careers over lap a lot and hence they are some instances where they are considered to be the same. In most cases the two work together in both new and renovated buildings. Their duties usually include: wiring, installing built in electrical appliances and lighting. However, during the renovation of a building, they are responsible for electrical upgrades such as rewiring, removal and replacement of old fixed electrical appliances such as fans. Residential and commercial electricians in most cases are employed by real estate development companies and hence, they work in a different site every now and then. However, there are some electricians who are employed by property managers to provide electrical maintenance on a regular basis.

Industrial electrician

Unlike residential and commercial electricians, industrial electricians are considered to be the cream of the crop. As the name suggests their work is centred on industrial environments such as manufacturing plants, ports and electrical power plants. This is because, as an industrial electrician you will specialize in dealing with more complex electrical systems as compared to residential and commercial electricians. In industrial, situations the problems that occur require a sharp minded individual who will be able to troubleshoot the problem in good time and provide a suitable solution so that the plant or port resumes its normal functionality in the shortest time possible. They are also responsible for any new electrical machinery instalments or upgrades required in their areas of work. In the manufacturing industry, industrial electricians in Perth have high demand for their skills as everything in manufacturing is operated by electrical devices. They usually work hand in hand with engineers in an aim to improve the existing robotics systems used in the manufacturing plants.
