mikemcconor IP Address and What Do You Have To Know About It

Oct 23rd 2012 at 6:02 AM

We can define the IP as a private IP address generally used as a default IP address for many routers. Since there are many different devices from several manufacturers that use this IP address as a default one, it is quite possible for an IP conflict to occur if two of these devices with the same default IP are connected to a network at the same time.

So, is there a way to prevent IP conflicts? Well, the easiest way to avoid these conflicts is to purchase a quality router for your network. These routers usually have a so called DHCP client server, which automatically assigns IP addresses to every single device in the network. This eliminates the possibility of two devices having the same IP address.

Additionally, if we take a look at the IP, almost any router can have this IP set as its default. Also all computers and other devices can be managed with the help of this IP. Now, if there is need for you to access your router’s configuration setting, you can easily do that by typing the default IP in your browser’s address bar. All you have to do next is to type in the default username and password and you can start adjusting your device as you like.

If you connect your computer to a system with similar configuration it is possible that there will be some problems. For this reason, it is always recommended to do a complete backup of your system before you start making any changes. Do this with extra care since you can easily lose your Internet connection.

Besides the IP, there are other popular IP addresses that other router manufacturers use as default ones. Two of the most popular are and They are also non-routable which means they can’t be accessed from outside the network.

These two other IPs are default IPs for routers made by Linksys, Netgear, D-Links and so on, and they are also used to give the user access to the configuration settings. Once the user reaches the configuration settings he or she can easily manage MAC address filtering, encryption, network settings and similar. Basically, the router settings are best protection from someone who wants to remap the settings you have made previously. It i important to understand that this wouldn’t be possible if the IP hasn’t been a private IP address.
