Why Unified Facebook and Google Advertising is a Must to Get Desired ROI for Small Businesses?

Apr 24th 2015 at 2:19 AM

Advertising in the digital world offers a range of possibilities like target specific marketing, sustained engagement with potential consumer base and tracking the behavior of those consumers online and off-line. This renders moot, old school advertising wisdom of being the loudest voice in the biggest space. The platforms or avenues presented by companies like Google and Facebook offer services like PPC that in turn allow businesses to focus on the content and quality of the message and the quality and consistency of output rather than limiting themselves to numbers.

How should these platforms affect the approach of marketers in the digital realm? To answer this question we need to understand the value propositions of not only the business but of the platforms themselves too. Google and Facebook hold the biggest shares in market in online and mobile advertising. So, in this article we are going to focus on the platforms offered by these two companies and more specifically the advantages of a business combining these two platforms in their marketing strategy.

Firstly, we will see the offerings and juxtapose the services of both the companies. This will be a brief section as it is equally important to understand what those facts mean and how those facts should shape the decision making of small businesses Hence we will take the following trail for this article:

A brief look at the available advertising inventory by both companies and how these platforms are designed to interact with consumers.

A more detailed exploration of how this will affect content and leads. Leading to a broader discussion of how the two companies offer different advantages to marketers.

Finally, leading to the argument of this article - How, by incorporating a combination of services from both these companies, a small business could orient towards its desired ROI?

Both, Facebook and Google provide PPC ads.  Google provides display ads on the right hand side of the screen while Facebook does the same. However, just like Google provides ads in its search list, Facebook too has changed its initial policy to allow ads in its news feed. While Google Ad Words is a platform for advertising on Google's search pages, Ad Sense allows Google to partner with websites or blogs that are interested in the advertising in their space and match the message of the campaign.

While both Google and Facebook begin to look increasingly similar at this stage; especially with expansion in to the mobile market space, there are some significant differences that with regard to how content is meant to engage consumers and potential consumers. This is due to the initial purpose of the two platforms. The search engine site generates content differently than the social network platform and this is where investing marketing resources in a combination of these two platforms will prove beneficial to small businesses as it will provide space for a more extensive and sustained engagement.
