Previewing the Tata Bolt- a handsome evolution from Tata Motors

Overview: Honestly, Tata Bolt even without the Tata badge is unbelievably exciting. It definitely resembles the Indica Vista hatchback, but there is a whole new change in the philosophy of design and other features. After the thrilling new Tata Zest to get back Tata Motors into the sales competition, Bolt is the new sedan to join the battle in the Indian wagon industry.

Exterior: The next invention of Tata Motors is blessed with some freshness injecting three new themes called; Design Next, Drive Next and Connect Next.  Even if you ignore the logo, the classic grille is newer and better, it has stretched headlamp unit with projector lamps. Check out the muscular front bumper with inverted sweet smile and bulge on the bonnet, which adds more to its class. The front fascia all in all looks stunning. The window lines fly down in a curve on the sides, reaching the rear hatch. It gets further accentuated with premium looks carved in round edges.

 

Interior: The interior does get a funky appeal with the burnt orange tones adorned by the dashboard and door pads. The trim color shade is indeed refreshing and fresh. It is installed with premium plastics as well as estimates mounted behind the steering and a touch screen. There could be an addition of beige interiors. With a hatchback profile there is an enhanced room space compared to the Zest.

Engine & Transmission: Engines empowerment of Bolt remains quite similar to the Zest, available in both petrol and diesel variants and mated with 5 speed manual transmission. But there is going to be an addition in the variants with an automatic version, which is yet to launch. Tata Bolt engine is quite peppy like the Zest, with good torque output and power, dishes 90PS and 140 Nm in the petrol Bolt, while the diesel engine will considerably put out 75PS of max power with 190Nm of peak torque.

 

Mileage: Tata Bolt promise to give a top of 22.3 km/l in the diesel variant which is injected with 1.3 Quatrjet power, while dish out a max mileage of 18-19 km/l in the petrol variant.

 

Braking & Safety: The new sedan in the Tata family will enjoy ventilated disc brakes and drum brakes in the rear wheels.  It is injected with impressive safety features like the speed sensors, ‘Active Return function, and anti-lock braking system with EBD and steering assist.  To ensure security to occupants at all times it’s installed with the smart auto child locks.

 

Performance and Handling: Tata Bolt, gearbox has been tweaked for quicker acceleration enhancing a better performance. You get be slightly disappointed with the top end power delivery, when you are at the sport mode and away from the city traffic. But the weight loss of Tata Bolt compared to Zest definitely gives an advantage in handling. Suspension is deliberately kept stiff but not overt. Therefore it uses the independent McPherson struts integrated with anti-roll in the front and twist beam with coil spring in the rear.  Tata Bolt felt confident through curved lines, proving its decent abilities in maneuvering

 

Verdict: Tata Bolt could be safely stated as a one of the best hatchback launch from Tata Motors.  Tata Bolt, with its all right move, is a proud step to compete the sedan battle in India. It means business, has done a great job to grab more eyeballs.
