Where Was God on Sept. 11, 2001?
Where Was God on Sept. 11, 2001? asked by Raymond Delworth
Blessed be the name of the Lord - You give and you take away.
I believe God was there and left the three parts of the World Trade Center Towers that are burnt into our collective images of that day as a reminder of His Trinity. That image, as I saw it first on that day as I was glued to my TV set pretty much all day from 9:44 a.m EST until I went to bed late that night, is burned into my brain. I see the image now again in my mind as I write this. But, while I watched a documentary the other early morning (I wouldn't sleep and got up at 12:30 a.m.) and saw the image again flashed on my TV set and listened to the testimony of one of the survivors that was resting with a lady on the 5th floor stairwell of one of the towers, I began to see another image in my mind's eye. It was the image over the door of Sk8 Church in Steam Boat Springs, Colorado. It's the image of three crosses on a hill. By acts of God, I firmly believe I was led, while on vacation in Steam Boat Springs, to that church because His plan was for me to see that image and be prepared to write this article.
He wanted to answer, after all this time, the question I have thought on at least ten occassions - "Where Was God on September 11, 2001?". Until today, my wife and I have wondered why exactly did God interrupt our vacation "plans" to go and spend time at a Church devoted to Skate Boarders - totally foreign people to us, our lifestyle, and upbringing!
Twelve firefighters. One cop. One civilian. They were mostly good "Samaratans" and the other was a hurting lady (Josephine, a 59-year-old Port Authority secretary) that they were helping. They were on the Survivors Stairwell B and I'm sure wondering why God had interupted their "plans"? Did God use Josephine to see who were going to be the Good Samaratans - stop their plans to help her and be "slowed down". All those people in the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 that day, September 11, 2001, at some point must have had death on their mind. I wonder how many had the promise of everlasting life on their minds - for those who believe in Jesus Christ - the one who was crusified on one of those crosses on a hill. I wonder how many I will see later in my eternal life. I know I will be more careful now to "slow down" my plans to help those that are hurting and in need of help!
How many of those dear creatures of God thought like Isiah thousands of years ago "woe is me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips and live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty."? Who were praying to the Lord Almighty and who were cursing?
Just as the testimonies of Godly encounters and experiences are recorded in the Holy Bible, I wonder how the testimonies by the survivors of the Twin Towers and the Pentagon will be recorded in writing, through audio and video for those that survive us all hundreds and thousand of years from now. How will they interpret these testimonies and what will they do with the information? Will I be able to meet any of those who experienced the trajedy somewhere, sometime in eternity? Will there be any regrets they share? Do they know the significance of how God used them to help some of God's other creations?
I believe God WAS THERE because He was needed to bring grace and mercy to all - those He gave additional time on earth and those He took away to be with Him in eternity. I believe He was there to fight the spiritual battle that He allows between Him and Satan. I believe He was there to give one last opportunity for each one in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93 to accept Christ as their Savior that day and spend eternity with himself.
Knowing and accepting that "we all fall short [of holiness and purity]" and that we are all sinners, I believe that the surviving people that were within those remaining parts of the World Trade Center (for all of us to see in our mind's eye for eternity) were part of His plan to remind us of something eternally important. "He sent His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life". "For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through Him" [the one on the cross with two sinners]
I wonder did those in the presence of the trinity (within those three remaining pieces of the World Trade Center) feel His mercy and grace?
Do you know and acknowledge that God is on your side and therefore there is always hope? I share my reflections with you because the terror, flames, horror and pain felt within the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 is nothing compared to that in eternal Hell, and I don't want any of you to live there! I invite you to respond and share your reflections. In so doing please pray for the families of those who left us that day to feel His mercy and grace in their grief. Also in so doing honor and acknowledge the police officers, fire fighters, and other emergency workers in your community.

Holy Bible (American Standard Translation) - John 3:16-17, Isiah 6:5
Wikepedia: The Survivors' Staircase is the last visible structure above ground level at the World Trade Center site. It was originally two outdoor flights of granite-clad stairs and an escalator that connected Vesey Street to the World Trade Center's Austin J. Tobin Plaza. During the September 11, 2001, attacks, the stairs served as an escape route for hundreds of evacuees from 5 World Trade Center, a 9-floor building adjacent to the 110-story towers.

"What do you think the chances of surviving something like this are?" "One in a billion," Picciotto said. "One in a billion." (an exchange between a 45-year-old canine Port Authority Police Officer and a 51 year-old firefighter Battalion Chief that survived in Stairwell B)
"They now know that it was their decision to stay with Josephine, though she gave them permission to go, that saved them in the pocket of floors between the 4th and 6th floors of Stairway B that saved them".(Documentary - the Miracle of Stairway B) "But the 14 people inside Stairway B from the lobby to the sixth floor were spared. Why? Nobody can say for sure..." (Dennis Cauchon and Martha T. Moore, USA TODAY)
