The Big Picture
(exerp from Happiness On Tap Heather K. Meglasson 2010)
Imagine for a moment that there is a magnificent picture puzzle that when you are finished with it’s exquisite artistry, you look back and know that not only was it worth your time to piece together, you also feel that it would be totally energizing if you could do it again and again and again.AND that it would become even more enjoyable with each repetition, going faster and faster, more amazing and more exciting with each complete construction.
As you gain mastery over its consistent joyful assembly, which has become second nature to you, you begin to notice that other people around you are struggling to complete puzzles that they really do not enjoy. You watch them as they stop themselves in the middle of each process and mix it all up to start again, hoping the picture will somehow turn out differently though they are using the same set of pieces each time.
You feel for them as you note that they too are seeking to create a picture that they can enjoy and master the completion of but the fact that they hang on to the pieces they started with and argue that that’s all they need and that exchanging them doesn’t feel right or safe has you shaking your head in resignation. You may not be able to change the world of others but you can change your own world. Where to start is as easy as looking at what you don’t want which seems counter intuitive but think of it more as reverse engineering.
