For Working Girls: Simplify Your Life in 5 Steps

Every working girl knows how hard it can be to lead a fulfilled, well-balanced life when we work full time. It leaves so little time for everything else, but we still need to cook sometimes, to clean, to see our friends, go rest, and just enjoy doing nothing sometimes. This means we have to find ways to simplify our lives, and here are a few suggestions.


Make an inventory of your life

Sit down with a pen and paper and make a detailed inventory of your life, cover all areas, like work, relationships, family, social life, free time, health, nutrition and so on. Be honest, write down all the activities you spend your time on and even how much time you spend on them weekly or monthly. You will probably be surprised with the results. You can give yourself a week or two for self-observation, just notice how you spend your time and write it down.

Prioritize

Once you have the inventory down, pick your priorities. These will be the things you need to do daily or weekly, the things that are there to stay all your life, like healthy eating habits, regular exercise, rest, family time and so on. Your other priorities may be working towards your promotion, saving money or learning a new language. Recognize them and make a new list according to your priorities, set the amount of time you need for these activities.


Eliminate what you don’t need

The priorities list will make it very easy for you to see what is it that you are wasting your time on, like watching TV, hanging out on Facebook for hours, texting or driving to get something to eat while you could cook a healthy meal in less time. Be determined, get rid of people, situations and activities that don’t enrich your life, that don’t make you grow as a person. You will be surprised at how much more time and energy you will have for yourself.

Get down to time management

Now that you know what you want to focus on and what you don’t want in your life anymore, you need to take action and follow through with your new routines plan. Keep it really simple: eat healthy meals, have raw veggie snacks ready, recharge with a new drink like cold coffee that will boost your energy, exercise, check in with friends and family and whatever else it is you need to do in your day.

Schedule it like a pro, just like in school, set the time and duration of each activity, put it up on the fridge or a wall and try to stick to it the best you can. Soon enough, it will become your second nature and you will wonder where the stress of multitasking has gone.


Enjoy and be grateful

Last but not least, you need to praise yourself for any progress you make and try to be aware and present in your new simplified life. Notice the beauty around you, go for walks in the nature, lie down and daydream, just be present with your inner self and appreciate yourself, your time and your life. This is what you have been working for – more time to just be happy and grateful for life.

 

Don’t expect everything will change overnight, stick with it, encourage yourself the best you can, find a good friend to support your efforts, and don’t give up. It is your life and you can do it.
