When applying a university in New Zealand it is important for you to send enquiries at least 8 to 12 months before the proposed date of admission. You can do this by either request application forms from the university websites. Several universities have a form on their website which can be completed online to request application material. Other than this you can also check if your universities have a downloadable and ready to print versions of their application forms on their websites.  While there are several universities that have representatives in most major cities across the world, you can contact agents/representatives for application forms as well application guidance in order to complete this step.

The eligibility criteria that go along with universities in New Zealand is different for different universities. For example, there are few universities in New Zealand that accept the Indian graduation system of three years for entry into most postgraduate courses. An Indian bachelors degree like B.A., B.Com. or B.Sc. is equal to a New Zealand Bachelor (Ordinary) Degree where as there are some courses and universities that may require a qualification equivalent to New Zealand Bachelor (Honours) Degree. As per this degree the university requires 16 years of formal education, which would mean another year after graduation or a four year degree course like B.E., B.Tech or other such courses. There are several universities that just require a good first degree from a leading university in India or its equivalent.

Now when you are filling the application, it is important that you provide full details of your education including your course subjects and grades. Also, you need to provide official records of your previous academic qualifications in your application. There are several universities that ask for the transcript or official records to be sealed in an envelope and signed and attested across the seal by the registrar. You need to follow this procedure for each and every college that you have attended.

One final thing that a student needs to take care of is that if the student is not proficient in English, he may be required to take the IELTS (International English Testing System). Every institute has its own minimum scores with respect to this test.
