“When is the best time to have cats spayed or neutered?”
Do you know that clinical studies have shown recovery from sterilization is better when done at an early age?
Most cats are neutered or spayed when they are about 6-12 months of age. There are owners who wait until their cats are older with the thought that there are lesser complications. However, there may be additional expenses especially when the cat is in heat.
If a female cat remains intact as she reaches sexual maturity, she will continue to go into estrus during each heat season if she does not mate and get pregnant. An intact female is also prone to uterine infections such as pyometra.
If you don’t want to deal with the behavior of a female cat that is in heat, choose to have her spayed before she reaches puberty. A female cat in estrus will display annoying behavior such as persistent vocalization and being over affectionate.
Consult with your vet if you have any concerns and/or questions about spaying or neutering of your pet cat. Check out this link.
