Pet Dogs May Attempt To Assume Pack Leadership

May 20th 2015 at 11:37 PM

A dog may try to assume the leadership of the pack when he sees no alpha leader who is consistently taking care of the pack’s needs. Sooner or later, the dog may behave like a boss and that’s when problems start to set in. Oftentimes, male dogs are the ones which are quick to assume pack leadership; however females can also take charge when no one else is dominant enough.

The dog will soon realize that being a pack leader is not easy. He assumes the responsibility of protecting the pack and making sure everyone behaves. These responsibilities can make him edgy and nervous all the time. He will soon become bold and overconfident. He won’t obey commands and become stubborn.

Dealing with a dominant dog needs patience and consistency. The owner should take steps to let his pet realize he isn’t the alpha leader.

Asking assistance from your veterinary clinic will also go a long way in addressing any behavior problem. Visit this website to know more about your pet's needs and set an appointment.
