Important Reasons Your Kitty May Not Be Eating
A cat’s picky habits may extend to his appetite; however, a sudden change in appetite may indicate an underlying health problem. While the causes are often not that serious, the decrease in caloric intake can have a profound effect on your cat’s health and wellbeing. This is very important in cats because they are prone to developing hepatic lipidosis after a considerable time of less caloric intake. It is a potentially irreversible type of liver problem that primarily affects cats.
Some important reasons a cat stops eating include the following:
Cats are fussy eaters
Their keen sense of smell enables them to spot food that is old and stale. They don’t like food that’s too cold. They hate eating from a dirty bowl or one where ants are present.
Outdoor cats may have other sources of food
A cat that is allowed outdoors can prey on mice, birds, and other wildlife before going home.
Traveling or moving to a new home can be stressful for cats, causing a significant loss of appetite during the first few days of acclimatization.
