Feeding Pet Guinea Pigs
Being herbivores, the diet of guinea pigs is mainly composed of grass or hay. In addition to providing adequate nutrients, they chew on grass to keep their continuously-growing teeth well-trimmed.
The most common grasses/hay fed to guinea pigs includes Timothy, Rye Grass, or Meadow. Lucerne and clover are not advisable because they contain high amounts of protein and calcium.
To create variety in the diet, feed your pet cavy some fresh leafy vegetables and guinea pig pellets. They need to be supplemented with vitamin C because their body is unable to synthesize it. Citrus and kiwi fruit are rich sources of vitamin C.
