Allergy Management in Cats and Dogs

Jul 30th 2015 at 4:04 AM

Some pets can suffer from various forms of allergic reactions that range from intense itching to ear infections to hair loss. While allergies cannot be altogether prevented, understanding the cause of the problem can help minimize any symptoms and keep your pet dog or cat as comfortable as possible.

Itchiness in pets with allergies often appears in various ways:

· Specific parts of the body, such as the armpits and groin, are reddish and raw as the animal scratches persistently on these areas.

· Spend hours chewing or licking their feet, biting their tail or the base of the tail (rump)

· Scratching or shaking their ears

· Rubbing or scratching their face

· Allergies may also cause hair loss, recurring ear infections and skin infections.

Some of the most important causes of the manifestation of allergy symptoms include hay fever, food allergies, or hypersensitivity reactions to insect bites. Hay fever is by far the most common among them. Most cases of allergies in pets usually last a lifetime and can get worse over time. Thus it is very important to pinpoint the cause of your pet’s allergies so that a treatment regimen can be managed effectively.
