Your Vision Of What Should Exist!

Statue of David

Legend has it that Michelangelo had a clear vision of what the statue of David would look like before he ever touched his chisel to that block of marble.  Have you heard that story?

"In every block of marble I see a statue as plain as though it stood before me, shaped and perfect in attitude and action. I have only to hew away the rough walls that imprison the lovely apparition to reveal it to the other eyes as mine see it."—Michelangelo

Then as Paul Harvey was so famous for saying, "... here is the rest of the story!"  It may be true that Michelangelo had a clear vision of what he wanted the finished statue of David to look like and that he simply set about to chip away everything that did not fit that image.  Did you know that it was not Michelangelo's idea in the first place? He was asked by the consuls of the Guild of Wool to complete an unfinished project begun 40 years earlier by Agostino di Duccio (Wikipedia).

So while Michelangelo may have had his own ideas of how to advance the project, he was building on the thoughts and efforts of others that had come before him.  There is an excellent Squidoo lens that provides additional insights that are very interesting reading.  For example, did you know that the right hand is much larger than the left?  It is thought to be so to draw attention to the fact that David is holding something (some speculate a rock, others the handle of a sling).  And while many consider this statue to embody perfection of this discipline of the arts there are imperfections that even the great Michelangelo himself were aware of and attributed to the limitations of the medium that he was working with.  John Hooper writes in TheAge.com, "The only mistake is at a point in the centre of David's back that is hollow and ought to be rounded. Michelangelo was aware of the error. But, as he wrote at the time: "Mi manco matera" - "I lacked (enough) material".

Many of us may relate to the challenges the Michelangelo faced in his day more than we realize.  We are often joining in with a project or program that someone else began.  The resources, tools and people that we combine with our own efforts should be focused on causing our own vision to come to life!  Yes, we can and should cooperate with others and support them in their efforts to achieve their goals.  And when we do it well the results will benefit many far beyond what we might have imagined just as we are still enjoying the efforts of Michelangelo even though many of us have not had the opportunity to see it in person.  We are connected in ways that we may not fully understand or appreciate, so just be conscientious that your actions have an affect on many others in ways that you may never even know.

In my own efforts to achieve my personal goals I have concluded to concentrate on the basics. By helping others establish a good foundation they can then be free to create whatever else there on dreams are envisioning.  Want to be success in making a living working online from the comfort of your own home?  Want the freedom to work wherever and whenever you choose?  Want to ability to do the things you want to do when you want to do them?  Then help others be able to find their own answers to those same questions!  Zig Ziglar is often quoted, "You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want."  When you take a look at my Faceplate you should notice that it focuses on some of the most basic things we all must have to pursue our hopes and dreams.  By assisting people with these basics I am able to empower them to be free to pursue their own dreams knowing that there is food on the table and money in the bank!

I want to invite you to join in with me (much the same way that Michelangelo was commissioned to help realize the vision of the consuls of the Guild of Wool in Florence) to build with something as basic as helping people reduce their household budgets for the out-of-pocket expenses for groceries ... once they do this then they are free to pursue whatever else satisfies their own vision of what should emerge from their own block of marble!

Much success to you!
