Why Start Your Own Business? – Freedom
Original article can be found here http://ezinearticles.com/?Why-Start-Your-Own-Business?—Freedom&id=6202568
Have you ever pondered the question: ‘why start your own business’? Here are five reasons many people have given.
1. Choose your own work environment
When you work for yourself, you get to choose and set up your own work environment. This might sound like a small benefit but if you’ve ever had to work in an office or factory where music you hate is played all day long, your colleague wears perfume that makes you feel nauseous and your view is a dirty alley-way, then maybe you’ll really appreciate the chance to set up your own work space! You know what makes you most productive, be it classical music in the background, coffee breaks once every two hours, a quick stroll every three hours etc., and this is all possible when you work for yourself.
2. No more commuting
Many small businesses are based in the home. The great advantage being, of course, that you can hop out of bed and you’re already at work. No more lengthy commutes, awful traffic jams and cancelled trains and buses. Not to mention the energy you save by not travelling far for work. This clearly is one answer as to why start your own business.
3. Flexible schedule
One of the biggest advantages of being self-employed is that you get to set your own schedule. This may be the top answer to the question-why start your own business. Most offices operate from 9am to 5pm. Perhaps this doesn’t suit you because you like to start work at 6am. Or perhaps you’re more productive in the evening from 8pm to 11pm. Maybe you’d like to work four 12 hour days and take one day off in the middle of the week? All of this is possible if you work for yourself. As a parent, there is nothing more stressful than having a sick child. Your on the job responsibilities seem to often dictate that you are unable to care for your child in person as would you obviously prefer. When you’re self-employed of course you still have commitments to clients, no question about that, but it is often much easier to re-arrange your schedule when you work for yourself than when you work for someone else.
4. Take a day off when you feel like it
Ever been in a job where you have to fight for vacation time in the summer? You really want to spend the first week of July with your extended family by the beach but that week has already been booked and you have to settle for late September. What a downer! If you’re self-employed, not only can you choose your own vacation days, you can build up extra vacation time by working longer hours in the weeks running up to it. This attractive perk of self-employment is often enough for those who ask ‘why start your own business?’!
5. Pride in your work
A good work ethic is very important and it’s great to take pride in your work, whether it’s for a boss or for yourself. However, there’s no question about it, when you work for yourself you feel an extra sense of pride in everything you do. There’s the downside too insofar as you need to take all the blame when things go wrong but ultimately that responsibility is what will drive you on to achieve even greater things!
The above five points could easily be summed up to answer the question ‘why start your own business’? the answer being ‘freedom’!
