When choosing tiles for the different surfaces in your home, there are several factors that will help you determine the right type of tile.

If you need to redecorate your home, or if you are building your home for the first time, there are several things that you need to know when deciding which type of tile will suit the different surfaces in your home. For starters, the floor tiles that you choose will obviously be different from the wall tiles or the backsplash tiles that you choose. Also, the type of tiles that you choose for your bathrooms and washrooms will also be quite different from what you choose for your living room and dining room. That being said, some of the factors that will enable you to choose the type of tile for your home may by and large be consistent based on your taste and based on your budget. Below are some of the more important factors that you should consider when choosing tiles for the different surfaces in your home.

One of the first things that you should consider and may actually not even register in your mind is the shape of the tile. Whereas most tiles are usually square or rectangular shaped, tiles can be found in different shapes so that you can find, triangular tiles, honey onyx tiles and irregularly shaped tiles for that matter. When choosing the shape of the tile for a room, you can decide to go with a consistent shape of tile for the room or you can decide to mix and match different shaped tiles so that you can have a decorative effect. Additionally, the size and weight of the tile is another important factor that you have to consider. By and large, small tiles are used for decorative effects and for small surfaces like backsplash areas while larger tiles are used in to make rooms look even more spacious than they actually are. Furthermore, larger tiles are easier to lay and faster to install because they cover a larger area which means that if you are pressed for time, they will be the better option to go with. Moreover, larger tiles are much heavier which means that they will be more durable on floor surfaces that tend to have more traffic in the house. It would not be a good idea to use large heavy tiles on surfaces like back splashes or walls that cannot support heavier tiles.

The material used to make the tile is also very important when considering the type of tile to choose. For instance, if you choose a white carrara marble tiles vs an ordinary white ceramic tile you will have a totally different effect in the space that you consider. Additionally, the other different tiles that you choose from will have different looks and feels on the surfaces that you use the tiles on. Some of the different types of tiles to choose from according to the material used include glass tiles, metal tiles, porcelain tiles, stone tiles, pebble and mosaic tiles and so on.
