What Makes Pinochle Unique And On Kizi-2.net

Nov 3rd 2013 at 1:09 AM

The game of pinochle is part of a fairly distinctive class of card games that involves a point scoring system as opposed to directly comparing cards or hands to immediately determine a winner. The game was created in the United States and has evolved over time to include nearly a dozen different variations that are suitable for tournaments, large groups or particularly strategic players. The history and unique arrangements that are needed to play pinochle actually originated in Europe.

History

Even though pinochle is an original American invention, it is derived from a few games that were once very popular in Europe. The most direct ancestor is a French game known as bezique that first appeared in the 19th Century. The rules are very similar, although the changes that were made create two very different styles of play. Another game that has been instrumental in the development of modern pinochle is called skat. This is a popular German pastime that was integrated in order to create the auction style of play. Much of the more complex aspects of auctioning and scoring are derived from skat.

The Deck

Pinochle cards are unlike almost any other type of deck used for playing games. There are 48 individual cards. There are nines, tens, aces, kings, queens and jacks. No numbers below nine are in the deck. There are four suits of each value, making a total of 24 cards. Every deck includes two sets of those 24, so that the final count is 48. A single standard deck of pinochle cards is intended to be shared by no more than four players. Every player receives 12 cards initially before play can begin. For groups that are larger than four players, a double deck is used that contains 96 cards in the form of two complete decks. For games that include less than four players, a dummy hand is dealt to ensure that everyone receives an even count in each hand.Social Popularity

Pinochle has become popular in the United States because it is a social game that includes cooperative play. Teams of two or more people are able to work together in order to score the most points. Most versions of the game allow players to pass at least one card back and forth in order to achieve the highest score by collecting specific combinations of pinochle cards. The play is not overly stressful and fits well into the relaxed environment of a home. There are also some more competitive associations that hold nationwide tournaments where teams come together in order to compete for trophies.
