Using Traffic Exchanges and Why Some of Them P--- Me Off!

Oct 8th 2010 at 10:03 AM

As a traffic exchange owner myself, I know the amount of work involved in running a TE.  Guess, what?  It's really not a whole helluva lot! You make sure your members ads go out in a timely fashion (i.e. atleast a few hours from the time they post them in my case), make sure none of them break frames, you promote it, you baby it.  If you make a few bucks from it - good for you.  My reason for getting a traffic exchange was not for the money but for the built-in list it afforded me.  Any money is just icing on the cake.  Which is not to say you cannot make a lot of money from a traffic exchange, quite the contrary.  It just is not MY main focus.  I really enjoy running my own exchange.  It somehow makes me feel as if I am helping other people achieve something through their advertising.  But anyway- let me get to the point of this article.  I am a member of about 30 other TE's, it is one of my main and best sources of advertising.  Some TE's will run promotions giving you fabulous amounts of advertising just for joining- some up to 50 free solos for example.  Which is all well and good.  Makes me want to join!  But what is the point of it whenever you post your first solo and find 2 weeks later that it still has not gone out?  (Some exchanges, including mine, will allow you to post as many solos a day as you want to, as long as you have the points to pay for them).  Now I understand some TE's only like to post solos every 5 days from the same member- this is fine too- but on the fifth day- SEND MY AD OUT already!  I am in one exchange where I have had a solo sitting in the queue for 3 WEEKS!  What do these administrators do?  I don't know.  Now let me get to something I really don't understand- paid supersolos.  If I PAY -money- for a super solo to go out, I think it should go out as soon as the funds are received (same day anyway)  NOT 4 days later and still counting!  Is this just me?  Do any TE owners and administrators out there have any thoughts on this?  I myself would love to hear other's opinions on this subject- so please leave a comment!  Doug Abney  (And Thank you for letting me rant today!)

Hello Doug, I like your article as it lets me understand something how TEs are working. Using, tracking them is one aspect, but to understand them helps for personal purposes too. Thanks.

Hey Doug... I own text ad exchanges and everything you said about traffic exchanges is true in my business as well. I have a solo ad that I submitted last xmas that still hasn't been sent. No answer 3 support tickets later... UGLY! Your ad should go out in no more than 24 hours, but a good admin tries very hard to be on top of paid advertising and it should go out in a matter of hours. That's what laptops are for with air cards!

I think that you should post this in the groups area and see what comments you might get from there. You can rant all you want to, we all need to vent now and then.I belong to many TE's myself and have experienced pretty much what you have and more.
