Ultrasonic Leak Detection Equipment Use to Analyze Compressed Gas Leaks

Apr 27th 2015 at 12:58 AM

South Carolina Ultrasonic Leak Detection Equipment Covers a wide range of leaks: pressure or vacuum and any gas. Sound dependent, ultrasound instruments detect turbulent flow produced as the fluid (liquid or gas) moves from the high-pressure side to the low-pressure side of a leak. Ultrasound leak inspection equipment is especially beneficial in areas where there is a saturation of gases or where a wide variety of gases, pressurized vessels and vacuum processes exist. For this reason ultrasound leak detection equipment is used in many facilities for safety, environmental, energy or quality assurance programs.

One of the more popular applications for ultrasound is compressed air leak surveys. Utilizing UE Systems patented software for compressed gas leaks users are able to analyze and report on cost reduction due to wasted energy while demonstrating the reduction of a plant’s carbon footprint. During a leak, a fluid (liquid or gas) moves from a high pressure to a low pressure. As it passes through the leak site, a turbulent flow is generated. This turbulence has strong ultrasonic components which are heard through headphones and seen as intensity increments or decibels on the instrument’s display panel. It can be generally noted that the larger the leak, the greater the ultrasound level.

A major advantage of ultrasound leak inspection is that as a high frequency, short wave signal, ultrasound emissions tend to be localized around the leak site. By scanning an area with an ultrasound instrument, a user will follow the sound of the leak to the loudest point. Once identified, the leak amplitude can be noted and used in UE Systems’ compressed gas reporting tool for reporting, cost analysis and environmental impact.

Electronic Leak detection includes:

• Leak detection in roof and other waterproofing membranes.
• QA integrity testing of new waterproofing applications.

The test relies on two basic parameters:

• The slab or decking onto which the membrane or roof system is laid is electrically conductive—usually metal or concrete.
• The membrane itself is an electrical insulator.

South Carolina Electronic Leak Detection equipment provides a non-invasive means of detecting pinhole leaks in a flat roof membrane. Any defects within the waterproofing membrane are identified to within mm accuracy, providing targeted and effective repairs to that of complete roof replacement. Electronic Leak Detection is also widely used to provide the client with peace of mind that the installed flat roof is fit for purpose. The advantages include:

• Compatible with 99% of Flat Roofs
• Detects Pinhole Leaks
• Quick and Efficient Method
• Non-Invasive (Zero damage to roof)
