Toms River Blizzard - Social Media Lesson
One of the best things about having your business set up on all of the social media sites is real time communication with your customer base. During this past weeks blizzard you could and should have kept your customer base up to date on the hours and availability of your business. These days people don't call your business to see if your open they check your website or your Facebook/twitter feeds and if you don't have one yet I can almost guarantee you lost some business because of it.
Imagine being able to hop on Facebook or Twitter and broadcast to all of your loyal followers to say "Hey we are open today come on in". You could have very well been the only local pizza place or deli open in the area and your customers just assumed you were closed.
Toms River businesses could have also ran coupons or specials during the week of the blizzard. I'm sure business was slow for many local businesses due to the storm and conditions. Again imagine sitting in your business and being able to log onto Facebook and offer an instant coupon or special. It literally only takes a few moments to update a post or Facebook status with something like "Blizzard Special Today 3 slices for $4".
These real time communications aren't just useful when there is snow, but anytime your business is having a slow day or need to get some useful information to you customers!
