The Proper Protection When You Are Fishing on Foot

Jun 22nd 2015 at 4:20 AM

Mainly there are two kinds of anglers. People who enjoy the advantages of fishing from a boat and those who enjoy having the freedom to walk up and down the beach.

Sure you get more opportunities when you are fishing from a boat, but when you are on the same level with your prey and you can enter the water, it makes things ever that more personal and rewarding.

Fresh or salt water?

Although it is more common to find people fishing from the land near fresh water, like rivers and lakes, there are more than enough fans who go to the sea and fly fish from docks or beaches.

There can possible be no better way to experience it than being barefoot on a sandy beach. However, it is not always warm, and the beach is not always sandy either.

That said there are different options depending on the situation you are going to use it for. For example some people are going to spend more time in the water than on the beach. As such they need durable and thick wading boots which can usually connect with the rest of what they are wearing and keep them waterproof and warm.

There is treacherous, and then there really treacherous

After you spend some time fishing on rocky and slippery beaches or the deceiving river bottoms, there is one place where you know is going to be more exciting to fish from. Jetties. Especially people who solely prefer to go saltwater fishing, seem to prefer them from any other spot.

However, it is not always that easy. The rocks and the concrete blocks are specifically placed in a way to break the waves. And it makes it even harder to walk on slimy concrete and mossy rocks. You will need something with ankle protection, because it is easier than from anywhere else, to turn you ankle after a wrong step. And you will need something with a lot of traction. Something that can deal with slippery but rock solid surfaces. So people tend to use fishing cleats. They are essentially soles you strap on to your shoes and they have replaceable spikes underneath them.

There is nothing like standing on your two feet either in a river or on the beach of a sea while you are fishing. However, your shoes are probably more important of a choice to make than the kind of bait you are going to use.

Different places have different need and thus each place has the right and better suited gear for it.
