The more things change the more things stay the same

This morning I sat down and assessed my business.

Its something I try and do regularly but don't do often enough.

During that process, I make a commitment to refocus on the things that work.

I dragged out an old Sales process i learned from my Bank Worker days and came up with a Big 5 list of actions that I must focus on to improve my results.

When I was finished I had the distinct impression that I had seen something very similar before - and I have and so have you probably, its what succesful people keep bringing us back to time and time again.

In fact, I have an email from Graham Hamer dated 11/10/2005 - its an email I come back to every 6 months or so to measure my progress against.  I'm not going to quote the article verbatim but I am going to list the headings of his own Top 5 Marketing tactics which bear an uncanny resemblance to the Big 5 strategies I drew up this morning.

Strategy #1 "Have Your Own Subsciber List."  Yes I know everybody says it and its blindingly obvious, but the primary focus should always be to build our  subscriber lists.

Strategy #2 "Work on Joint Venture Marketing" OK this is hard - you have to have a product and service worth recommending - but the concept of list swapping is not that hard to grasp - provided you're ethical about what you do

Strategy #3 "Build into your website some viral marketing strategies"  This is vital viral marketing can build a steady stream of traffic and referrals to your affiliate products and programs without any extra effort.  My eBook Break Free Traffic embraces the concept of viral marketing and I use it in a variety of ways

Strategy #4 "Write articles about your area of passion." remember this email was written in 2005.  Back then blogs were splotches on newspaper.  the opportunity to write quality articles about the things you care about has never been greater.  HHalf of my working day is spent writiong articles that point towards my money sites.

"Strategy #5 "If your product or service allows, develop an affiliate program" Whoa... don't run away - this isn't as hard as it seems .  You can set up a base level product with sales page and product delivery page and launch it through Clickbank easily.  If you're looking for templates, headers and banners - take a look at Seamless Web solutions which offers an affordable alternative -(thats not an affiliate link by the way) just a statement of intention on my behalf  and you can set up a membership site through Frank Salina's EZ membership site for much less than it cost me

Strangely, my big  5 strategies echoed the above 5 -I can break each of my big 5 strategies into mini fives - 5 strategies to build my list - increase stickability on blogs, use safelists, TE's giveaway ebvents, consider targetted PPC campaign etc  5 strategies to build JV's or just 5 JV targets, etcetera

The point is that for all th changes , and advances in technology, Internet Marketing baics remain the same.
