The Best Investment You Can Make

Aug 5th 2010 at 5:59 PM

Guess what, this article WON'T pitch you something.

There will be no links to click on. Nothing to buy right now or else...

This is about investing in yourself. Your self-education and quite possible the most important aspect of making money online that no one talks about. I don't know why either. Everyone tells you that they want to see you succeed. Everyone will pitch you the latest great site that guarantees results. But why doesn't anyone talk about...Self education?

Mostly, because the affiliate program at Amazon dot com SUCKS! LOL Seriously, if I recommend a book for you to read and you purchase it from one of my Amazon links, I might earn 40 cents from a 20 dollar sale. Nothing really to write home about, but guess what I'm going to recommend that you take 20 bucks and instead of spending it on the 'guaranteed matrix' program of the month...You should take that twenty bucks and go buy a business book at Amazon.

Want a starting point?

Any book by Seth Godin, Jeffrey Gitomer, Gary Vaynerchuk, Kevin Hogan, Mark Joyner, Tara Hunt, Chris Brogan or Chris Anderson....Each of those are about 20 bucks (or less) and that's a good year's worth of material.

Make it a plan in your business to read one book a month and I guarantee..You will be ahead of 99.9999999% of your competition. Most people don't read, they don't further their self-education and they end up taking about how the 'good old boys' are keeping the little guy down.

See...No links in this article just a MASSIVE recommendation to invest 20 bucks a month for a year in YOUR education and read a book..Or two...Or three...

It's the single BIGGEST reason I have been working from home for over a decade!

So true, Jon, stand on the shoulders of the giants that have taken the time and made the effort to show us the path(s) to travel. ~LonnieG

Absolutely right Jon, thanks for sharing. Self-education is and has always been vital for success. Right now I'm a bit pissed off as I don't find enough time to read more... Cheers, Togrul

Life is divided into three terms. The one which was, which is and which will be. Learn from the past to profit the present; And from the present to live better for future. Its the best way to lead yourself through life.

Hi Jon, I agree - but after educating yourself, you need to stop at a certain point and TAKE ACTION.

Yeah, I love reading Jeffrey Gitomer and Seth Godin... (He get 1 extra point, my middle name is Seth)

Seriously speaking, I do it the Old fashion way... Yeah I know I start getting old... I take the car to the Book store and buy it... It's dangerous out there... In the real world... But I do it anyway.

Purple Cow is gr8 ... Robert Kiyosaki is pretty good as well. I read and seen a few presentations he done Online... Yeah Jon stay ahead of the curve, wave is a good advice.

But Now we are talking... JOB, planning, spending money and build a Business... Not join a matrix, wait for spillovers and make millions doing nothing!!!

To answer your question about why people don't recommend self-education, Jon, it's because there's no money in it, as you pointed out. So many of us have developed the mindset that if it isn't a pitch, it isn't worth writing. Which is sad. I'm going to check out some of those writers you recommend. Most of my reading for the last few months has been "beach books" and it's about time I read something useful and intelligent.

Yes, reading helps to open your mind and expand your horizon. My favourite pastime too.

I agree, you need to be reading something about the different aspects of your business daily! My problem is that I love to read, sometimes find half my day gone before I've done anything else! I really need to work on a schedule and only allow myself a certain amount of time to read, do research, review other people's profiles, post comments, etc.

Nice article Jon. Everyday we don't learn something new we fall further behind.

The plan is most important thing - no plan, no action.

I agree with the idea of self-education and for a person to read daily, even if it's to re-read books you've read in the past. Seth Godin is a great example ... just look up SQUIDOO and you can find a path to his expertise. You, too, Jon leave a valuable path to follow for online success.

Thanks all, much appreciated. I hope the messages are getting across. I'm trying to just show people what I did. I'm not anything special, just a single father with passion. Sounds corny but anyone can do this!

Jon, I hope you don't take offense when a say you are a very spiritual guy even though you look like a "party animal"! LOL! Despite being a co-founder and owner of a growing and unique TE, you are a humble person. I like your brand, Dude! Great article!

We need an "I love this" Button!!! This is the very reason why I joined the opportunity I am in today. We deal in personal development, because as you said, personal development is the most important thing in any business!

Great tip - I might add that one of the best business books that I ever read was a book called Maverick by Ricardo Semler about how he transformed a struggling business enterprise into a major multi national corporation. Basically he threw out he rules on management and empowered his people to take the business into their own hands. How do we empower struggling IMERS to take their business and make it their own?
