Social media and SEO are disparate, right?


When you use social media to share your news, you can earn the links that Google looks for to move your site higher up in the rankings. Google changed its algorithms lately to grant higher importance to the recommendations that your friends, fans and followers share with you @ and through the different social media platforms like twitter, facebook, linkedin, imfaceplate and so on

Here’s a few things to keep in mind:

Remember the 3:1 rule. We can’t forget our fundamental social media principals just because we want links. Social media is about building relationships and it is reciprocal.  For every piece of content you promote on a social platform, you should post three pieces of external content, relevant in substance.  This way you’ll continue to widen interaction, earn trust and achieve links, while not losing followers… and sincerity.

Use widgets. Here’s the truth: even if you’ve developed a solid connection, peeps aren’t going to help you if it’s hard.  So make it easy for them! Use widgets on your site – they’ll give readers an obvious and convenient place to click to re-purpose and re-promote your content.

“Pitching links” is awful. No one wants a “proposal” on what they should do with their space – it’s theirs! If you pitch them to “advise” that they should put your link with your perfect anchor text on their homepage – you’re going to get hung up on.

But social sharing is a way around it.

It comes down to good content – if your news is relevant and worthwhile, it’ll travel across the Web, fetch you inbound links, improve your SEO and get you found.
